The text displayed with the loading pages of the surfacecollider site is generated by a fine-tuned GPT-3 model. The model is trained to create theory-fictions that map out and muse on cyborg subjectivity, drawing on four influential books: Katherine Hayles' 'My Mother was a Computer', Neal Stephenson's 'Snowcrash', Mark Fisher's 'The Weird and the Eerie', and Vilem Flusser's 'Into the Universe of Technical Images'.

Every time you visit a page of the surfacecollider site, text generated through the previous user interaction is pulled from a database and used as a prompt to generate new text which is printed to the screen. When you click or touch the screen the text updates. Every text fragment generated through your interaction with the Large Language Model is sent to the database, becomes the prompt for the next text continuation request, and the cycle continues. Your activity builds on the growing corpus of text stored within the surfacecollider database and helps to shape the experience of the next visitor. Thanks.
